Buddy brought me his Acer, what a mess, so I initiated the hidden partition, and began to take it back to factory. Everything went well until I got to the Win 7 desktop for the first time. I see a menu for a system preparation tool 3.14 with a couple of options, BUT before I can do anything, I get a ACER splash screen, and a message saying that Office 2010 is installing, don't turn off your computer, etc, etc. Nothing installs, or it hangs (tried to let it go for 8 hours other night, nary a movement on the status bar). I've tried to switch apps (Alt tab) but CANNOT get past it, and reboots always end up with the same story. Also tried booting is safe mode, but because the recovery is not complete, that doesn't work. Never seen this before and would appreciate any help
I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem we're having at work. One of our photographers keeps losing the first photo on her CF card. When I put the card into a reader Windows asks if I'd like to repair the file system. I always say no and then use some software to recover the image but it keeps happening. It's happened twice this week already! She's shooting with a Canon 50D and SanDisk Ultra 4GB cards. It's not the card itself that has a problem because every time it's happened I've pulled the offending card out of service. Could it be the card reader that's somehow corrupting the image and the card? Is it her camera? She formats her cards every time she starts a new project and it's always just the first photo on the card that becomes corrupt. But, recovery of the first image is generally su

Hi, I completed the clean-up process after getting a nasty infection, but I've still got problems with my laptop. Virtual Dr. was helping me but have not got a response in 36 hours and I need to get running normally again. Ran all the scans and ComboFix, the moderator designed a custom fix for me and that went well. But here's the remaining problem-no desktop unless I'm in Safe Mode. My screen saver picture is not there and neither are any of the icons. The bottom tray is there with a minimum of icons, but I cannot click on Start; the cursor just spins and spins. The moderator's last instructions to me were to go to Start "Search" type: explorer.exe and press Enter. This should have brought back the icons but it didn't work because I could not use Start. Can you advise what I can do? Thanx
I am using windows 7 and ever since my last update, I am unable to click on most links. What happens is, a new tab opens up with FB, CNN, and various other icons. If I click on one of them a new identical tab opens up. This same tab opens up sometimes, when I click on some websites too. I tried to restore to a date previous to the latest update, but as soon as I shut the computer down, the updates were reinstalled. I could do this again and disable the new updates, but this is not recommended. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem? Thanks.
I am attempting to create magnet business card through vista print but can't seem to get the resolution right try as I might. Hoping someone is willing to look at it Attached Thumbnails
Just recently ( with in the last week ) my wife has had a problem with opening attachments in her yahoo account,it's from only one address that previously worked. She clicks on the attachment and it disappears with no error message or anything.. If I sign into her yahoo account and then forward the mail with the attachment back to her account she can then open and save them with no problem ? She can also have them forwarded to her from someone else that also receives the same files from the same address, and she can open those as well.?
Hey Tech People! This is a weird one. I bought an HP ENVY H8-1534 for my wife (refurbished; great price). The site said it came with Windows 7; it came with Windows 8. I tried it out for four seconds and realized right away why Microsoft has gotten so much crap over this. Put plainly, in my opinion, this is worse than any other operating system. (I used a slightly different description last night and now I can’t find my cat). I am also not thrilled about having to sign up for every single service Microsoft has (or the machine will not work) and converting to Microsoftolicism and worshipping the greedy jerks that intentionally come up with this stuff. I am very technically proficient with most Windows operating systems up until now. I decided to install a brand new Windows 7 Premium (prem
I just had a Microsoft update and 10 minutes later i had the blue screen of death appear not sure if they are related ? The updates were Security update for Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 Thank you Dan
Note: I actually "fixed" this problem with a system restore, but seeing as how it keeps recurring every few months I'd like to find out what the root problem is. So, the programs my laptop had installed with Windows 7 stop working around 1 - 2 minutes after I start up windows. I can still use Firefox, Google Chrome, Skype etc. but any windows-related programs such as Task manager or cmd.exe stop responding. If I use ctrl+alt+del to get to the menu and then return to windows, the whole screen turns black. If I open Skype or other programs like that, they show up on the black and a snapshot of the window stays if I move the window around. Also I can't stop the programs, they just get stuck. Shutting down the computer shows that all the stuck programs suddenly start working for those few seco
I am on Windows 7 32 Bit. And I recently had a malware attack. The symptoms are: Within days, I could not shutdown, restart, move files (could copy though), cannot access hard disk drives. I also cannot run commands using cmd.exe as an administrator. Running cmd.exe as administrator and typing in commands, still gives "Administrator privileges required". After a few days, now, profiles of google chrome, virtual comodo dragon and other softwares are malfunctioning. The internet sign shows connected, though cannot surf the internet with any browser, except with Virtual Comodo Dragon. An autorun virus places shortcuts and .exe files on flash drive, changing names of copied files and folders, after deletion of the old files from the flash drive. Hi, I just bought a WD My Book 3TB, and hooked it up with newly installed usb 3.0 ports. I want to let it plugged in all the time, but when I start up my PC, I get the diskcheck-screen where it's checking my My Book, saying it was a check that was already planned. I already filled it with around 2TB, so just letting the check do it's work for just one time is not an option, as I don't want to be unable to use my PC for a few days. How do I turn this auto diskcheck thing of ? OS: Vista
Great Site. I've been checking the archives to see if I can find a resolve to my problem but no such luck. As it stands I'm currently stuck in erecovery hell. I've tried all I can think of with no success. Admittedly I'm far from a computer genius but with good instructions can find my way around. This has me stumped. The problem... Acer Aspire 3000 blacked out and booted back up looping erecovery automatically. You can press f2 or f12 but thats it. There is no need to press any key to get to erecovery as it automatically starts after the acer flash screen and xp window. next a window flies up stating... no matching partitions. Then the screen requesting the system password 000000. Next is the selection for factory default and system restore. Next a succession of windows pop up saying....
No Joy in Safe Mode - same screen Tried chkdsk /r on many occasions with a Vista Boot CD Also sfc /scannow offbootdir yada yada - this said corrupt files, fixed them and put results put in CBS file - reboot the same blank screen Files can be seen via Linux Live disc, so there doesn't seem to be a read problem There is something I am not doing...
In the past few days I have noticed a very strange and extremely aggravating change in my computer. I draw digitally for a living, and I noticed that every so often (sporadically, not evenly spaced) my cursor would simply stop communicating for a second, just long enough to confuse my drawing program, making me have to Alt+Tab out, and back in before it would recognize the pen on the tablet again. At first I believed this was my tablet's fault, but after a day of dealing with this, I began to look more closely at my friend Windows Task Manager. I noticed that every so often the CPU Usage would spike-dramatically. Never for more than a second, but just long enough to eat a huge chunk of the CPU Usage, and so I began a few google searches to see what I could find, just to give me some kind o
Hii.. I need to write a macro to display the word entered through the text box. I have a column with a word say "ABC" in the row number 3. First i need to search that column, and i have a word say "No" in the work sheet . So i need to display the text(entered through text box) in the column "ABC" whereever i have the row with text "No". I have written using the cells and the numbers, but when i dynamically change it to another column, this does not work. Sub Gen() TextBox1 = InputBox("Please Enter the text") If TextBox1 <> "" Then For j = 4 To ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count If Cells(j, 10) = "No" Then If IsEmpty(Cells(j, 36).Value) Then Cells(j, 36).FormulaR1C1 = TextBox1 Cells(j, 36).Select With Selection .HorizontalAlignment = xlGeneral .VerticalAlignment = xlBottom .WrapText = True .O
For the past year and a half, I've been using a Netgear N300 Wireless USB Adapter to connect my home-built computer (with Windows 7) to the wifi from the router on the floor directly below me, and it's worked just fine. But lately, for the past couple of weeks, often when I get up in the morning, my little networking icon in my system tray has insisted that there are no available connections, or that it can't find any because my ethernet cable is unplugged. I don't even HAVE an ethernet cable on this computer, and I haven't ever. I have also noticed that it seems to have this problem during the daylight hours. No matter how many times I restart my computer or reset my adapter or physically go downstairs to make sure Dad hasn't bumped a wire, Dad's computer remains perfectly connected and f
I have the Sentinel Systems driver installed on two other computers with no problem. Just got this new laptop and it goes through the motion of installing but then says it cannot be installed and no changes have been made to the computer. I have tried contacting Safe Net and received a reply they would get back to me. That was three days ago. Just wondered if anyone has had this problem and if so how did you remedy it. I have also tried plugging in the dongle which when recognized also tries to install the program with the same results as described above. Thanx. Hi everyone, I'm new here so bear with me if my information isn't too complete in the first post. Basically for the last few days, my computer has constantly crashed while playing the same game, but hasn't during regular usage. Some days it can go all day without crashing, others it will crash 2-3 times an hour before I give up and head to bed. I have no idea where to begin, but it simply turns off the PC, no blue screen until I turn it on again, then upon reboot, begins a system repair. I wrote down the BSoD details from the latest crash. Stop: c000021a (fatal system error) Status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x001003f0) I'm using a Toshiba Aspire 4741G laptop if that's any help. Really need someones help! Thanks in advance, Chris
Hello! So here's what all happened.... My dad brought home a used laptop he bought. When he gave it to me to fix, it was in terrible conditions. None of the programs would open, task manager wouldn't open (clearly a sign of malware) and it had stupid McAfee installed. So what I decided to do first was try to get rid of the malware. Then after that finished, I decided that it might be better to reinstall Windows 7. I pulled out my Windows 7 installation disk and let it sit there while the OS reinstalled. When it was over, I came across the error that it wouldn't connect to the internet. I tried going to Networking and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings but *bam* there is no "Wireless Connection" or "Local Area Connection" icon. There is only a bluetooth one. I tried to install drivers
