Do GCSEs matter?!

Hi, I'm in Year 12 and last summer I got my GCSE results. They were pretty average since I didn't revise (3A* 6A 1B). However, for my AS levels I've been working really hard and I reckon I can get 4A's. I want to do medicine but I'm afraid Universities may reject me because of my GCSE grades despite everything else.
